Introduction
Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) provides centers with qualifications in business and management, accounting, computing, law, health and social care. ATHE qualifications are approved as progression pathways to Bachelor’s degrees and Master’s top up degrees by a number of UK and international Universities, providing significant tertiary education opportunities for learners globally.

Overview
The ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Law is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to the first year of a university degree. This qualification has been designed for learners who wish to progress to university and, when taken in combination with the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Law, allows learners to progress onto an LLB top-up degree programme (the final year of university).
Qualifications
For learners who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:
- A GCE Advanced level profile with achievement in 2 or more subjects supported by 5 or more GCSEs at grades 4 and above
- A Level 3 qualification in law or legal studies such as the ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Law
- An Access to Higher Education Certificate delivered by an approved further education institute and validated by an Access Validating Agency
- Equivalent international qualifications
Language
For those whom English is not their first language we recommend the following standards of proficiency in English language skills or an approved equivalent for this qualification:
- IELTs 5.5
- Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2
- Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 162 or above
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic 42-49
Qualification Structure ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Law
The ATHE Diploma in Law is (120-credit) qualification.

- To complete this programme, a learner must complete all (4 mandatory units) to achieve this qualification.

This unit will equip learners with knowledge and understanding of the key principles of contract law, such as: validity of contract; terms of contract; vitiating elements that affect the validity of the contract; the ways in which the contract can come to an end and remedies for breach of contract available. |
| Criminal Law
(Level 4; 30 Credit). Mandatory. |
This unit will equip learners with knowledge of the general foundations of criminal liability and with understanding of the major types of offences and their constituent elements. |
| Legal Methods
(Level 4; 30 Credit). Mandatory |
This unit will equip learners with the knowledge and understanding of the identification, interpretation and analysis of legal sources and materials. The acquired skills will enable the learner to apply the law to the facts of problems in any given legal area, to communicate clearly and persuasively and to reach satisfactory solutions to legal disputes |
| Public Law
(Level 4; 30 Credit). Mandatory |
This unit will equip learners with knowledge of the general foundations of constitutional and administrative law, with a particular focus on the main elements of the United Kingdom’s constitution. The unit will enable learners to identify the significance of the separation of power and the sovereignty of Parliament, as well as the importance of human rights norms. |
Delivery mode
This course will be studied via blended learning, to enable you learn when and where you want. You will be able to study at home or work, it is completely up to the learners on how plan and execute their study timetable. All the learning materials can be found online. Assessment methods
This course will be graded with ‘Pass or Fail’. A range of assessment tools will be used, and this might include assessment through:
- A research activity resulting in the compilation of a report
- The compilation or evaluation of a case study
- A critical review and evaluation of a chosen company’s policies, procedures and systems
- A set project completed for an employer (also known as an ‘employer-engagement’ activity)
- The production of a portfolio of evidence relating to a particular unit
Certification and awarding body
Upon a successful completion of this Programme as stipulated by ATHE, you will be awarded the ATHE Level 4 in Law. ATHE regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.
Progression and profession pathways
Upon a successful completion this course, you will gain an accredited qualification that will provide the pathway to enter the first year in several recognised Universities in the UK. You can progress to the following.

- Employment in a managerial level job roles and other related sectors
- ATHE Level 5 in Law
